The main thing this game has going for it is speed--pure speed. And that's really the most important thing a racing game can have. Unlike so many racing games that throw a hundred options at players and then offer lame, slow-motion action, IATV/I more or less says hurry up.p The fact that the vehicles of choice are ATVs is almost unimportant, except that, like a cat, they can catch huge air and always seem to land on all fours. And though these machines go fast, there's really little reason to slow down. In fact, players won't even have to brake on the first three tracks, as power leans and a slight easing of the accelerator can satisfy most turning demands.p Of course, all this speed does have its costs, especially as far as graphics go. It's not that the tracks are ugly by any means; they hold together with little polygon breakage. It's just that they're entirely generic. You've got your desert track, your snow track, your forest track, and subtle variations of the aforementioned three. Also, there's very little a player can do besides race--in other words, no tricks. Obviously, this can get pretty boring after a while, but for those who just want to race, IATV/I makes a decent showing. If you're a fan of motorcycle racing games, then you might want to book some private time with your trusty game console. Acclaim's motorcycle racer has plenty of good ideas going for it, but substandard follow-through and too-easy races keep it trapped in the middle of the pack. p In addition to the standard IGran Turismo/I-esque races, licensing tests, and upgrades, IDucati World/I offers a number of innovative gameplay options. For example, the game's challenge mode allows players to choose their bikes and put money on the line in a head-to-head race. It might be gambling, but at least it's cheaper than racing for real pink slips. p While the game has plenty of bikes to choose from, including several from years gone by, the racing is at times so easy that most seasoned gamers will soon start looking around the room for other discs to spin. A collection of gameplay modes will keep the attention of hard-core bike enthusiasts, but this game will seem to others as rushed as an impromptu game of chicken. AC3 was the first game in the series to feature a third-person 360-degree camera that could be rotated on all three axis with the right thumbstick; allowing the player to keep enemies in constant sight. A welcome feature, this was carried over to later games. It was also the first game to allow the player to choose their aircraft's armament.
It is the only game in the series so far to feature a mission in outer space. Although there is only one, it featured a reasonably accurate physics model of a zero-gravity situation. The game was also a departure in other ways; the style is reminiscent of the Wipeout series of games, especially the Head-Up Display (though some found it was too bulky and interfered with the player's view). The company logos of Neucom, Ouroboros, General Resource and the UPEO bear resemblance to the works of The Designers Republic. The soundtrack consists of a variety of electronic music, largely ambient mood setting tunes (as opposed to the rock music found in Ace Combat 2), composed by much of the same team responsible for the critically-acclaimed Ridge Racer soundtracks. | *$20.00 |

Dust off your spandex mask and get ready to kick some butt with POWER MOVE PRO WRESTLING. Based on the popular Japanese game, TOUKON RESTUDEN, this 3D brawler features all of the excitement of pro wrestling, with all-new characters. Choose from 12 different brawlers (including the powerful Agent Orange and an ex-police officer from the Middle East, called the Egyptian Conniption) as you try out more than 50 real-life wrestling maneuvers. Each character, of course, has unique special moves some of which are devastating. All of the basic wrestling rules are in effect, with each match being settled by either a three-count pin or a disqualification. In order to get the pin, you'll first have to drain your opponent's energy to zero. Modes of play include One- and Two-Player matches, 12-Man Gauntlet, Championship, and PPW League. The massive 12-Man Gauntlet mode challenges you to defeat 12 wrestlers in succession, with no rest in between matches. PPW League lets you invest in a point-based season, in which the goal is to move up through the ranks. ITony Hawk's Pro Skater 2/I, with all of its new additions, is basically more of the same stuff that players saw in the first ITony Hawk's Pro Skater/I--which is not a bad thing at all. Those who loved the first will especially love all of the new skate parks, with their hidden areas that can be unlocked by performing certain tricks. For instance, on the first stage, players will have to grind across an airplane propeller to get the thing to twirl, which opens a hangar door. There also are some neat little touches to the levels, like a hall monitor who races around in a golf cart at the high school.p Neversoft, the developer of the first IHawk/I game, really deepens this installment by challenging players with 10 objectives per level. Now, not only do players have to find hidden tapes and reach high scores by doing tricks, they have to jump certain gaps, as well as collect items and cash. This kept us playing some levels for hours before completing the majority of level objectives--and even then there were some objectives, like achieving a "sick" score, that we couldn't quite manage.p The levels are set up to allow some clever trick combinations, and players even can create their own skate parks by choosing from over a hundred props, including ramps, rails, and pools. Also fun is creating a skater from scratch, and determining his weight, attire, and skills, which can be improved by earning cash in career mode.p Like the last game, ITony Hawk's Pro Skater 2/I dips into the worlds of hip-hop, rap, and punk rock for its soundtrack, although many of the songs are recognizable and pretty old--this loses some of the freshness that the soundtrack had on the original. Games are all about living vicariously, either in a wonderland or an adventure land. Of course, one could never actually play out the role of a deadly, stealthy ninja in real life, but ITenchu 2/I supplies an excellent simulation.p Players assume the role of one of three assassins in over 29 levels. These ninjas can run, bounce around, and roll every which way. They're armed with a lethal array of items, from a simple grappling hook to poisonous rice balls, left for unsuspecting foes to munch on.p ITenchu 2/I is completely 3-D, and like most 3-D games, players will be fighting the camera at times, especially when combating enemies in close quarters. On the other hand, it's possible to take out any foe with a single strike--if that foe never sees his assassin coming. This makes sneaking around of the utmost importance, not to mention the utmost fun. While IStar Trek: Invasion/I never quite reaches the lofty heights of the Colony Wars games, it's still worth a look even if you're not a green-blooded trekker.p Set in the time line of the INext Generation/I TV and film series, IInvasion/I has you cast in the role of a fighter pilot destined for a big part in the upcoming war against the Earth-bound Borg. The Borg is not the only ITrek/I race to show up in here; the Cardassians, Klingons, and Bajorans are all along, too. Speaking of the ITrek/I gang, actors Michael Dorn as Worf and Patrick Stewart as Captain Picard contribute good voice acting to an all-around solid production.p The visuals in IInvasion/I are uniformly sharp and show an attention to detail that almost makes the old PlayStation beg for mercy. The planets, the ships, the explosions (especially the explosions!) are topnotch. The music, however, is painfully repetitive. Disturbingly, the controls in IInvasion/I are way too sensitive for all but the most die-hard space jockeys. The Valkyrie space fighters often make too wide a turn, resulting in constant misfires and untimely deaths.p Perhaps because it is set in the more politically correct universe of IStar Trek/I, IInvasion/I does lack the Colony Wars games' level of intense, gritty combat, and its story isn't nearly as engaging. Yet, for a laser blast-filled journey into the final frontier, it's still a fun ride.
